A step-by-step wedding planning guide

Three months plus

• Set date and schedule temple time

• Determine budget

• Decide on reception location and color scheme

• Order invitations and thank you cards and compile guest list

• Arrange for a photographer

• Select caterer and menu

• Arrange for florist

• Select groom’s ring and order engraving

• Book reception entertainment

• Order cakes and candies

• Make doctor appointments

• Plan honeymoon and make arrangements

Two months

• Arrange for health, auto, life and renter’s insurance

• Register for gifts

• Ask people to help at the reception

• Order favors

• Arrange for videographer

• Arrange for tuxedos

• Have bridal portraits taken, if desired

• Arrange for Bishop and Stake President interviews

One month

• Buy accessories such as cake knives, serving plates, guest book, pen, etc.

• Arrange for time off work

• Mail invitations

• Make appointment for hairstylist (if doing own hair, practice with veil)

• Get marriage license (no sooner than 30 days in advance)

• Select furniture for new home

• Write thank you notes for gifts as soon as you receive them

• Break in shoes

Two weeks

• Double-check all reservations (florist, caterer, photographer, videographer, entertainment and honeymoon accommodations)

One week

• Plan seating arrangements, if needed

• Change address with post office

• Pack for honeymoon

• Get manicure, pedicure

• Arrange for utilities, etc., for new home

• Get groom’s haircut

• Provide caterer with final guest count

• Decorate reception area

On the wedding day

• Don’t forget breakfast

• Arrange for plenty of time to get ready

• Be sure to have rings and wedding license

• Take a fix-it kit: safety pins, bobbie pins, breath mints, etc.
