| Finding the perfect job by networking |
• Be a leader. Take advantage of any type of leadership position; it gives you a built-in excuse for connecting with people.
• Don’t underestimate the power of listening. Listening is just as important as talking when it comes to establishing good relationships with others.
• Don’t sweat the small talk. Small talk is just what it sounds like: small. A sense of humor or some profound insight is nice, but there’s nothing wrong with a mundane comment.
• Make the most of what you know. Let people know you as the person they can call for the latest information on whatever’s relevant to your field.
• Attend events that have a purpose. If you’re uncomfortable or nervous at events that are solely networking opportunities, try to attend gatherings that have a purpose, such as educational or cultural seminars.
• Just do it. You never know where a job, lead or some good advice is going to turn up.
