After the look-alike contest, the bridal open house, before the Michael McLean concert and Extravadance, in-between the luncheons and Saturday-morning workshops is ... time.
The chore of keeping your older, wiser and more experienced mom entertained for a weekend may seem overwhelming for some college students. Here are five fun, and thankfully time-consuming, activities you can do between Mothers Weekend activities.
Garden gazing
The Thomas E. Ricks Demonstration Gardens are a beautiful part of campus. The horticulture department has recently built a waterfall and new walking paths. They are located south of the Spencer W. Kimball Student and Administrative Services Building and west of the Gordan B. Hinckley Building.
Dinner bell
Not only will you benefit from learning your mothers cooking techniques and getting a healthy meal, but the accompanying shopping trip will work toward the goal of filling a college students empty cupboards.
If making dinner is not in the family genes, many restaurants are located in Rexburg and Idaho Falls. Smith Park, located on the corner of 300 E. and Main, and Porter Park, just off 200 S. and 200 W., are good places to take a picnic-style dinner.
ame time
f two or more mother-child couples are in an apartment, you can battle each other in games such as Cranium, Taboo or other group games. Mix up the teams by playing students against moms or mother-child couples. You can introduce roommates and their moms to games that are a tradition to play in your family. You can also introduce your mom to games learned at college.
Sweet talk
If you and your mom plan on setting some time aside to catch up on some missed conversations, do it over a pseudo-fondue pot. Melt a chocolate bar in a pot and dip cut up apples, bananas, strawberries and pretzels.
Tag team
If things are moving too slowly this weekend, take a trip to Rigby or Idaho Falls to play a game of miniature golf. Lazer tag is a fun way to take a few long-deserved shots at each other.
