When can I register? Is there a deadline for registering?
BYU-Idaho registration is done by credit-level check. Credit level includes credits earned and currently enrolled classes. Transfer credits are not counted into the credit level until processed by the Student Records and Registration Office. A student can register for classes until the last day to add classes. For a detailed list of when to register, please view the Registration Calendar.
If the classes I want are full, is there any way I can still be added?
Students can go to the class on the first day and take a chance of someone dropping or they can call the teacher directly at his/her office to inquire about openings. Most teachers do not keep waiting lists and leave it to the student to check the registration page for openings.
How do I get into a class that requires a signature?
You must contact the instructor and see if you meet the pre-requisites of the course. The instructor will add you to the class if you qualify.
How much is tuition, and when is it due?
LDS tuition of 12 or more credits is $1,530.00 - not including class fees and books. You can print out a Fee and Schedule Form by clicking on Registration under Quicklinks on www.byui.edu - use your NETID and Password. Click on class schedule and fees, pick semester and click display my classes/fees; then print. The tuition deadline is shortly after the beginning of the semester, and will be charged interest if late. Unpaid fees will block you from making academic transactions.
Do I have to pay the $60 registration deposit for each semester?
For students who are on the Fall/Winter track, your $60 will remain in your account until you leave BYU-Idaho. If you are on the track system where you will miss a major semester - Summer/Fall or Summer/Winter, your $60 will be returned to your home and you will need to pay it again before you can register for the next term.
What does Continuing Endorsement mean?
During the Winter Semester, students meet with their ward bishops on campus and renew the Code of Honor with him. The bishop will fill out a paper ensuring the university that the student is still worthy to attend BYU-Idaho. If the student fails to have this interview with his/her bishop, a restriction from the Dean of Students Office will be placed on the students record, restricting the student from adding or dropping classes from that time on until an endorsement is submitted.
How many credits do I need to take during summer/fall/winter to be full-time?
Summer/Fall/Winter Semesters = 12; Block = 6
How many credits is an average load during a block, and how many are too many?
The average load for a block is six credits. Use the following example: Multiplying each credit by three will give you total class time and outside homework you will have. Students area restricted from taking over ten credits per block unless permission is granted through the Student Records and Registration Office or Assistant Academic President.
Where do I find out what kind of classes I'm supposed to take for my major?
A student can look in the Catalog or visit the Career Advising Center (KIM 250) where the student can get one-on-one counseling with a trained advisor, or they can visit with their campus advisor, a professor who works with students in a particular major.
How do I drop a class?
A student can drop a class by either using the touch-tone phone or using the Internet. Under Quicklinks on www.byui.edu, clink Registration. Enter NetID and password, click on class registration, select a semester, and click Submit Click Display my classes/fees and drop desired class. Students must be aware of deadlines, which could charge them $5 per drop, put a W on their transcript or both.
Is there any way I can remove a "W" from my transcript?
Generally, missed deadlines are not an acceptable reason for removing a W. There must be some extenuating situation, which must be approved by review of the Exception To Policy Committee. You can call or visit theStudent Records and Registration Office, KIM 190, to answer any specific questions about this procedure. Verification is required for medical reasons or circumstances requiring absence from attendance. These must be attached to a petition form, which may be obtained at the Student Records and RegistrationOffice.
How does a "W" on my transcript affect me?
A "W" signifies that you have significant investment into a class but did not complete the course to obtain a letter grade. W grades DO count against you in the 75% rule. The 75% satisfactory progress policy states that you must complete at least 75% of the credits for which you register each semester. Failure to obtain a 75% progress completion will result in placing a student on academic probation. F and W grades are non-progress grades. In the next semester, if your progress rate were 75% or higher, you would be removed from academic probation; if it were lower than 75%, you would be placed on academic suspension. W grades are not calculated into your GPA and they WILL NOT disappear if you re-take the class at a later date. If you are receiving Federal Financial Aid, you must check with that office to determine how W grades affect your eligibility.
