Transfer Evaluation Frequently Asked Questions
1: Why didn't my credits transfer?
There is a difference between course transferability and course equivalency. First, determine if the credit is truly not counting; it could be because the class is not within the numbering system (below college-level) or the school is not accredited. If the coursework has been accepted for credit but has not been given equivalency, then the course transferred as elective credit.
Students may petition a specific department for an adjustment or substitution regarding certain transfer classes that transferred as elective credit. A course syllabus or description must be provided by the student before any adjustment can be made. To obtain your syllabus/ description, contact your school. Contact the satellite advising center assigned to your college to begin the substitution process.
2: Why didn't I receive credit for my AP exam?
AP scores must be sent directly to BYU-Idaho by the student's high school or AP testing center. Faxed AP transcripts will not be accepted, and the scores cannot be taken from another college's transcript.

3: Can I repeat a BYU-Idaho class at another school?
No.
4: Can I repeat a class from another school at BYU-Idaho?
Yes, if the course has a direct equivalency, as determined by a transfer evaluator in the Student Records and Registration Office.
5: Why won't my religion credits transfer?
Religion classes from institute and other LDS institutions will only be accepted if the course number was 100 or above, if the course was taken for credit, and if the you received a letter grade. Book of Mormon (REL 121 and REL 122) transfer directly; all other religion courses transfer as elective credit.
6: I took a class at another school and received a bad grade. The class doesn't fulfill any BYU-Idaho requirement. Do I have to submit that grade to BYU-Idaho, or can I have that grade removed from my records at BYU-Idaho?
Failure to send BYU-Idaho official transcripts from all institutions you have attended or are currently attending, both U.S. and international, can result in disciplinary action including dismissal from BYU-Idaho.
7: I took a class and then repeated it, but the second time, I got a bad grade. Can I count the first grade?
No. BYU-Idaho accepts the most recent grade for the course, not the best grade.
8: How do I transfer my credit to BYU-Idaho?
Submit official university, college, institute, and military transcripts to:
Brigham Young University-Idaho
Admissions Office
Kimball Building 120
Rexburg, ID 83460-1615
9: Once I have my transcript sent to BYU-Idaho, how long will it take for my transfer credits to be evaluated?
Depending on how busy the Admissions Office is, it could take 2-3 weeks.
10: I received an Associate Degree at another school. Why aren't my general education courses completed?
Make sure it is a valid associate degree - not an applied degree. Also, be sure the degree is posted on the most recently sent transcript. Schools do not automatically send updated transcripts; the student must request the transcript to be sent from that school. An Applied Associate Degree will not fill Foundations requirements.
