Every year, the Department of Design and Construction Management takes a group of five students to Orlando, Florida, to compete in the National Association of Home Builders Competition.

Nate Allen, from the department said the university usually competes in the 2-year competition, which means only freshmen and sophomores are allowed to compete.

"They have to come up with a management proposal for how they would build a house - they have to show all the details, how it would go together," Allen said. "They have to show how long it would take, so they schedule it, they have to show when every subcontractor would be involved, and they have to do a very detailed estimate. And then they present their proposal before a panel of judges."

Allen said the department is always looking for students who are also involved in other departments like business management to help the teams build their designs.
