When times are tough it's sometimes difficult to make ends meet and provide for families.

Megan Southam took it into her own hands to help people who are struggling by organizing a free garage sale in Rexburg. Southam said she had a feeling her and her husband needed to give back to the community and help those in need.

"I know that a lot of people really need the assistance and the help," said Southam. "When I had this idea, at the beginning, I felt that by doing this I could make a difference."

The idea stemmed from a tough time in Southam's life when she and her husband were in a tight financial situation. They received help from the community that kept them afloat. Southam said this made her want to pay it forward.

"We struggled financially and we couldn't make ends meet," said Southam. "There were multiple times where we had help from other people throughout the community of Rexburg, Idaho that came to the rescue and helped us out and that really made a difference in my life."

This is not the first free garage sale the Southam's have organized.

"When we did the first one...it was a huge success," said Southam. "People would come up to me when they would leave and say 'Hey, thank you so much, you don't know how much this means to me.'"

The Southam's hope to organize a free garage sale every few months. The next sale will be Saturday April 22 at 210 S 12 West from 2pm-6pm Donations are currently being collected. To donate, contact her on Facebook or call (208)497-9240.
