BYU-Idaho students will have an opportunity to come face-to-face with dozens of potential employers and internship coordinators at the university's upcoming career fair.
"It's an opportunity for students, alumni to come and find jobs, find internships and network with graduate schools as well," Will Gierke, the Marketing and Events Coordinator for Internship Services at BYU-Idaho, told BYU-Idaho Radio. "The career fair gives an opportunity for you to in one day, to be able to contact a lot of different companies that would be great places to work for," Gierke said.
The fair brings together both local and out-of-state companies, in addition to graduate program recruiters, in one location for easy access to students searching for the next step in their education or career.
"Career fair is a great way for students to get some experience interacting with professionals," Gierke said. "For freshmen and sophomores, it's a great way to prepare and for others to find internships and jobs that they're going to be able to get right out of college."
Gierke says students can prepare for the event by visiting by scheduling a resume review, participating in a mock interview and by researching companies coming to the fair beforehand in the week before the event.
"Making sure you're professionally dressed, making sure your resume is ready," Gierke said. "Our career preparation mentors will be helping with resume reviews, mock interview skills and making sure that your LinkedIn is ready. Also, making sure you know about the companies is really important so you don't just go up to a company and say 'Hey, what do you do?' That's really unprofessional and so we encourage people to know and research these companies."
The career fair is Thursday, October 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the BYU-Idaho Center. Information sessions and interviews will also be happening across campus. Detailed information about companies and schedules is available here.
