Transfer Credits

Many students come to BYU–Idaho already having completed some transfer credits elsewhere.  Some common questions relating to transferring credits are addressed here:

How will my credits transfer to BYU–Idaho?
The Student Records & Registration Office does not conduct an official transfer review until after the student is admitted. However, their site (www.byui.edu/srr) does provide a helpful breakdown of BYU–Idaho course equivalencies from some institutions from which BYU–Idaho receives a lot of transfer applicants.

Do I need to complete the Foundations (General Education) program?

  • Students who transfer an Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution will not be required to complete the Foundations courses, with the exception of the FDCNC Connections course and any required Religion courses.
  • Students who have not earned an Associate’s Degree or have earned an Applied Associate’s Degree will be required to take Foundations courses that have not been filled by transfer courses.

Will BYU–Idaho accept me if I have a lot of transfer credits?
Students with between 90-119 semester credits earned will be required to submit a graduation plan to the Admissions Office. A graduation plan is a semester by semester breakdown of the classes you will take while at BYU–Idaho. The following resources may be a help to you as you put your graduation plan together:

How do courses from LDS Institutes of Religion transfer to BYU–Idaho?
Religion classes (except for Book of Mormon) transferring from LDS Institutes of Religion or other CES schools will be transferred as general elective credit if taken for credit and a letter grade, but will not count toward required BYU–Idaho religion classes.

How will I know when I can register?
After you have been admitted, you will have access to your Graduation Report and an online unofficial transcript at my.byui.edu. The Graduation Report is found under the Student Services Menu link in the bottom left corner of the page. The Graduation Report will tell you the total number of BYU–Idaho credits you have, which will determine when you can register. To find out what day you can register, visit www.byui.edu/registration. For help regarding what classes to register for, contact the Satellite Advising Center over your major. A list of these centers is found at www.byui.edu/advising.
