BYU–Idaho Atmosphere
In 1888 in the small southeastern Idaho pioneer settlement of Rexburg, Bannock Stake Academy was founded. Now, over 120 years later, Brigham Young University–Idaho continues to pioneer in the fields of higher education and spiritual development. The university’s heritage is rich in sacrifice, dedication, and innovation.
As BYU–Idaho continues along a steady, upward course of improvement, development, and growth, students today continue to be blessed by the spiritual, academic, and social growth that so many have come to experience here. Through hands-on learning, service to each other and to the Lord, and personal commitment, each BYU–Idaho student develops and both a disciple of Jesus Christ and a capable leader.
The mission of BYU–Idaho is to:
- Build testimonies of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and encourage living its principles.
- Provide a quality education for students of diverse interests and abilities.
- Prepare students for lifelong learning, for employment, and for their roles as citizens and parents.
- Maintain a wholesome academic, cultural, social and spiritual environment.
BYU–Idaho has a very distinct and unique role in God’s kingdom. Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with which BYU–Idaho is affiliated, have often commented at length on the bright future of this institution and the value and contributions its graduates will bring to the world.
