Ensembles Participating in Sacred Music Series 2007  

  

Collegiate Singers

 

Collegiate Singers, conducted by Dr. Kevin Brower, is one of the premiere off-campus performing choirs at Brigham Young University-Idaho. Comprised of 40-42 of some of the finest singer/musicians on campus, this group provides both singers and audience members an exciting experience of a wide variety of musical styles and periods.  Collegiate Singers generally tours each year in addition to many on- and off-campus performances. As part of the 2006-2007 experiences, Collegiate Singers producing a CD of music featuring choir and organ. In addition, other performance events will include Handel's Messiah, Christmas in the Snow, and the biennial BYU-Idaho Sacred Music Series concert and tour.

 

Men's Choir

 

The Men's Choir, conducted by Dr. Randall Kempton, is an all-male chorus of 90 - 100 singers sure to thrill audiences of all ages.  The Men's Choir repertoire ranges from barbershop to Gregorian chant, from sacred hymns and spirituals to the best of Broadway and Hollywood, and from serious classical music to popular a cappella.   In addition to rehearsing and performing independently, Men's Choir combines regularly with Women's Choir for special rehearsals and performances to be announced at the beginning of each semester.   During the 2006-2007 year, the Men's Choir will participate in many events including the annual Barbershop Festival and the biennial BYU-Idaho Sacred Music Series concert and tour.  

 

Women's Choir

 

The Women's Choir, conducted by Dr. Eda Ashby, is an all-ladies chorus of

90 - 100 singers.  The purposes of the Women's Choir are:  to provide an equal opportunity for women at Brigham Young University-Idaho to participate in a quality choir, to develop the vocal and musical talents of each member, to provide opportunities for church, community, and school service and leadership through class, special rehearsals, and public performance of high quality choral literature.  In addition to performances featuring the Women's Choir, this ensemble will also combine frequently with Men's Choir for special performances such as Handel's Messiah, the annual Barbershop Festival, and the biennial BYU-Idaho Sacred Music Series concert and tour.  

 

Symphony Orchestra

 

A 72-peice symphony orchestra of string, woodwind, brass, and percussion personnel. Four concerts are given throughout the academic year of various different types such as: full orchestral, Halloween/Pops, choral/orchestral, student concerto soloists, guest professional soloists, etc. Also a biennial concert tour of a newly-commissioned sacred LDS choral/orchestral work.
