Announcing I-Learn
![]()
I-Learn (full name: BYUI-Learn) is the next generation of teaching and learning technology at BYU-Idaho. It includes an integrated collection of technologies built by BYU-Idaho and our partner vendors, including Blackboard, Learning Objects, VLE Genius, Adobe, and Google. Much of what you see in I-Learn will be the same as the old Blackboard system, with some notable exceptions.
Why the name change? "Blackboard Academic Suite" is a product name of a portion of the learning system we use at BYU-Idaho. For the last few years, the system has included pieces from other vendors as well. Because the learning system originally contained only Blackboard technology when it started in 1999, the name stuck. As we look to the future, the BYUI-Learn learning system will integrate a wide variety of technologies from a wide variety of vendors. "Blackboard" is no longer an accurate name. The name I-Learn was selected after a campus-wide survey of preferred names.
What are the notable exceptions? Some of the key new features in I-Learn include - ePortfolio tool - academic content management system - redesigned discussion board tool - virtual classroom - group management tool - podcasting
