Earning my degree, in University Studies with minors in Marriage and Family Life and Communication, was not just to reach a destination it was for the journey. I started my journey at Ricks College, before having children, and earned two Associate Degrees. Then I was able to carry a full-load each semester and I gained the knowledge and skills I needed at that time that helped me to establish sound practices such as; money management, good nutrition, gospel study, communication and teaching children. I am so grateful for the time I had at Ricks College and am equally grateful that my formal education did not end there. Through BYU-Idahos Online Degree Program I have been able to continue to build on that foundation and have benefited immensely from continuing my education while being a mother and raising my four children.

Pursuing my education through BYU-Idaho Online has been so fun and engaging. Every class has been precisely what I have needed each semester. My education has helped me in so many ways, including: to defend my religion, teach and guide my children, communicate more effectively in my marriage, serve in the church, develop tolerance and charity, establish effective gospel study habits, and more successfully deal with lifes trials and challenges. My husband and children have learned so much from what I have shared with them. I have taken course material and created wonderful, age-appropriate Family Home Evening lessons. Every calling I've had in the church has been influenced by my education and university experience. My confidence in my abilities intertwined with my dependence on the Lord has enabled me to become so much more than I otherwise would have been capable of becoming.

My goal in obtaining a Bachelor's Degree was never so that I could have a career, although I did want the security of having it if the need were to ever arise. However, with this degree I now have several additional options that weren't available to me before, from employment to pursuing a Master's Degree. For right now though I am most happy to be using my education to bless the lives of my family, the church and our community.
