Step 1: REVIEW Application Tutorial
In order to complete the application for Pathway correctly, students must first review the application tutorial. The tutorial specifically outlines which sections of the application pertain to Pathway applicants.

Step 2: APPLY to Pathway*
Complete the Church Educational System (CES) Online Application at www.besmart.com. As part of the application process, students will be asked to:

  • Submit official college transcript(s) from any previous U.S. higher education institutions to BYU-Idaho Admissions Office, 120 Kimball Rexburg, ID 83460-1615.
  • Complete an English Proficiency Exam (for non-native English speakers).
    • U.S. & Canada: Pathway missionaries will contact students to schedule the assessment.
    • International: Students complete the assessment prior to submitting the application.

Step 3: ACCEPT Offer of Admission
Within 3-5 weeks of the application being submitted, students will receive an official admissions decision on BeSmart. All students must either accept or decline their offer at www.byui.edu/response.

Step 4: REGISTER for Courses
After accepting the offer of admission, students will register for their BYU-Idaho course(s) by first going to the registration tutorial. Students who have registered for their course(s) by the First Day of Online Classes (see date under Important Dates), will have access to view the course(s) by going to my.byui.edu and clicking on "I-Learn." Students who register for the Pathway language courses will also complete the Speaking Partners application.

Step 5: MEET the Pathway Service Missionaries (U.S. & Canada Only)
Service missionaries play a central role in Pathway by mentoring students throughout their first year in the program. Prior to the first day of classes, Pathway missionaries will reach out to each student to set up a brief, informal interview. Students may also contact their missionaries directly by finding their local Pathway site.

*Students who have previously been enrolled in Pathway but left the program for one or more semesters must reapply. Students who started an application but never finished it may log back in to besmart.com, update the semester they would like to begin the program, complete the application, and submit it.
