Petition Instructions
Why would I need to submit a petition?
Since the full or part-time sequence you were admitted to acts like a cohort, you cannot change the order in which BSN courses are completed without prior approval. Regardless of the reason, changes or interruptions made to the sequence without prior written (email) approval could jeoprodize your seat in the program.
Realizing circumstances may necessitate a change, you can petition the department for approval of such a change. If you happen to register for a BSN course that is out your scheduled sequence, you will be asked to drop the course.
When do I submit the petition?
- As soon as the need is identified.
- No later than one month before the start of a semester.
How do I submit the petition?
Currently, in order to petition, a student must email Brother Williams in the following manner:
- In the Subject line of the email state: "Petition to Alter the BSN Course Sequence."
- Address this to the "BSN Committee."
- State the need, the reason and circumstance relevant to the petition
- Propose and map out the sequence of BSN courses resulting from your needed change.
The above subject line is critical. Tracking the petition will be nearly impossible without the subject line.
How should I map out the needed change of sequence?
For example, a student on the full-time plan needs to skip or miss the second semester as pictured below:

Please note the above semesters are consecutive.
How long does the petition process take?
Two weeks, depending on the nature and timing of the petition.
What is approval based on?
Naturally, the circumstances and reasons for the petition will largely affect the decision to approve or disapprove. Space availability is the other major factor that affects the committee's decision. Sometimes approval is given contingent upon space availability. (Back to top of the page)
