Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing: Completion Requirements
How do I complete the BSN degree?
At BYU-Idaho we want to see our students successfully begin and complete their chosen degree. As a result, the BSN requires students to follow a specific completion plan. In order to provide some degree of flexibility the plan is divided as follows:
- The Full or Part-time Sequence of Core BSN Courses
- The Baccalaureate Degree Completion Plan (BDCP)
What are the full and part-time sequences of the core BSN courses?
Since summer 2008, all BSN students are required to complete the core BSN courses in one of the two prescribed sequences listed below:
Full-time Sequence

*Excluding N450, which was taken the first semester, students admitted to the part-time sequence for fall 07 or winter 08 semeters follow the same sequence above.
Can I change the order of the above sequences?
Once admitted to the program, students must strictly adhere to their assigned sequence. Regardless of reason, interrupting either sequence could result in delayed graduation or even dismissal from the program. Only by petition will changes be considered.
How many are admitted to each sequence?
Space availability permitting, 40 students are admitted to the full-time sequence and 20 students are admitted to the part-time sequence.
What are the other requirements and sequence of those courses?
In addition to the above BSN core courses, students generally are also required to complete seven or more Non-nursing courses. On the BSN application, applicants determine the completion sequence of these Non-nursing courses by filling out the Baccalaureate Degree Completion Plan (BDCP):
Sample BDCP

Once admitted, students are expected to follow their BDCP but the schedule of the non-nursing courses can vary as needed. Depending on one's admission status, failure to enroll and complete a course through BYU-Idaho during any given semester is considered withdrawal from the university; likewise withdrawal from the BSN program.
Besides the courses listed above are there other course requirements for the degree?
Generally, by completing the above courses, most students qualify for graduation. When starting the BSN program, however, the following conditions could require more course work to be done?
- The total number of official credits listed on one's transcripts
- The total number of BYU-Idaho general education requirements completed
- The current articulation agreements among BYU-Idaho and other academic institutions
How do I check my progress toward graduation?
The best way to check one's progress toward graduation is through the online Graduation Report. This report compares your current transcripts to both the university's major and general education requirements. Just as you did on the BDCP, you can actually plan ahead the remaining courses you have to complete.
