Request Nursing Course Sequence Change (Petition)

Since the full or part-time sequence you were admitted to is a cohort, you cannot change the order in which BSN courses are completed without prior approval. Regardless of the reason, changes or interruptions made to the sequence without prior written (email/petition) approval could jeopardize your seat in the program.

Realizing circumstances may necessitate a change, you can petition the Department of Nursing for approval of such a change. If you happen to register for a BSN course that is not in your scheduled sequence, you will be asked to drop the course.

Petition Instructions

When do I submit the petition?

As soon as the need is identified.

No later than one month before the start of a semester.

How do I submit the petition?

Currently to submit a petition, you must email the Nursing Outreach Program Supervisor in the following manner:

In the Subject line of the email state: "Petition to Alter the BSN Course Sequence."

Address this to the "BSN Committee."

State the need, the reason and circumstance relevant to the petition

Propose a new sequence of BSN courses

(The above subject line is critical. Tracking the petition is nearly impossible without the subject line as listed above. )

How should I indicate the needed change of sequence?

Propose the desired specific sequence. The final sequence will be decided by space availability in the courses.

For example, if a student in the full-time cohort needs to skip or miss the second semester, then the student would request the following:

1st Semester

Winter 2008

Semester Skipped

Spring 2008

3rd Semester

Fall 2008

N 316

N 327

N 338

N 330

N 449

N 450

4th Semester (Make-up Semester )

Winter 2009

N 327

N 449

Specify Winter, Spring and Fall with the year in addition to the numerical semester designation.

How long does the petition process take?

About two (2) weeks, depending on the nature and timing of the petition.

What is approval based on?

The circumstances and reasons for the petition will largely affect the decision to approve or disapprove along with space availability.  (Back to top of the page)
