Associates of Science in Nursing: Prerequisites and Requirements
Prerequisite Courses
Traditional Track
- Chemistry 101 - Intro Gen Chem - 4 credits or the student who has completed one full year of high school chemistry with a grade of "B" or better may qualify to have the chemistry prerequisite waived.
- Bio 264 & Bio 265 - Hum Anatomy and Physiology - 8 credits
- Recommended High School Courses: Algebra II or higher, Nutrition, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry.
Important: You must be accepted into the nursing program and complete the prerequisites before entrance into Nursing 100.
Alternate Track
For the Alternate track ALL general education course work must be completed before starting. For a list of all the general education classes see the "Sample Completion Plan" under the ASN information page.
Program Requirements
After being accepted to Brigham Young University - Idaho and prior to starting the nursing courses, the student must:
- Complete prerequisite courses with a "B" or better grade
- Receive a confirmation letter from the Department of Nursing
- Return signed acceptance form by specified date
- Return completed consent form
- Provide a documentation of current "Healthcare Provider CPR" certification.
- Submit completed health questionnaire with immunization documentation
- Be responsible for and assume the risks of transportation to and from the clinical areas.
- Submit a completed criminal background check.
Note: Each nursing student is required to carry student liability insurance against malpractice suits. The insurance fee is $10 per semester and paid by Brigham Young University - Idaho.
