BYU-Idaho Radio is launching a new show featuring the sounds of Brigham Young University-Idaho students involved in the Department of Music’s various performance groups. “Sounds from the Snow,” will hit the airwaves on Tuesday, June 4 at 8:00 p.m. Featuring more than 25 different performance groups on campus, the variety of music is sure to appeal to a wide range of music lovers. The show will offer a mix of performances recorded on campus by BYU-Idaho students and faculty members in choirs, ensembles, and solos.
“If there’s a BYU-Idaho performance group, we’re trying to use their music,” said Radio News and Programming Coordinator Brandon Isle.
The show will air every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. with BYU-Idaho student Stephanie Steele as host. Stephanie is a music major with an emphasis in jazz piano from Washington. In the hour-long episodes, Steele will share her interviews with student performers and music department faculty members intertwined with a variety of sounds from the halls inside the Eliza R. Snow Building, where the BYU-Idaho Department of Music is housed on campus.
“These students work so hard to perform pieces they play just one time at a concert, and this show will help give their music more life,” Steele said.
“We hope that radio listeners will become acquainted with our groups and perhaps be more motivated to come to our concerts and hear us live,” said Randall Kempton, a music department faculty member.
The first season of “Sounds from the Snow” will feature 13 episodes on BYU-Idaho Radio. This will air on KBYI 94.3 FM with plans to release more episodes in the future.
