REXBURG, Idaho—The British choral group VOCES8 will perform Tuesday, February 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall at BYU-Idaho in Rexburg.

Tickets for the Center Stage Performing Arts Series event are $12 for the general public and $6 for BYU-Idaho students. Tickets can be purchased at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office, by calling (208) 496-3170 or online at tickets.byui.edu.

Formed by former Westminster Abbey choristers, the British octet performs works ranging from Renaissance polyphony to modern jazz and pop arrangements.

VOCES8 is heard regularly on international television and radio, including Deutschlandradio Kultur, ARTE TV, Radio France Musique, BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM.

“The singing of VOCES8 is impeccable in its quality of tone and balance,” writes a Gramophone reviewer. “They bring a new dimension to the word ‘ensemble’ with meticulous timing and tuning.”

Touring extensively throughout Europe, North America and Asia, VOCES8 has performed at prominent venues such as London’s Wigmore Hall, St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall, Tel Aviv Opera House, and Shanghai Concert Hall. The ensemble has also appeared with the Philharmonia and London Philharmonic orchestras.

VOCES8 has recorded a series of award-winning discs for Signum Classics, including “Choral Tapestry,” “Bach Motets,” “Aces High” and “Christmas.”

In 2013, VOCES8 was nominated for seven Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards, winning for best classical album and best classical song.

Formed in 2005, VOCES8 has a diverse repertoire ranging from early English and European Renaissance choral works to their own arrangements. They came up with the name en route to a competition.

Paul Smith (one of the founding members) said, “We needed a name to go on stage and there were eight of us and we were in Italy. We wanted something that feels like voices but had that Latin vibe to it, so we went with voces.”
