For the first time, individuals interested in participating in a Brigham Young University-Idaho commencement ceremony can do so from their own homes. This year's spring commencement, to be held July 23, will be streamed at byuicomm.net.
Streaming graduation will enable parents, family members and friends-who for various reasons are not be able to participate in the live ceremony-to still be part of their loved ones' special day. The live commencement begins at 6:30 p.m. in the John W. Hart Auditorium, and the stream will be broadcast beginning at 9 p.m.
Johnny Mills, a senior graduating with a degree in computer information technology, is one of the students who will benefit from streaming graduation. Mills' parents are unable to attend the ceremony, but they plan to watch it online.
"I was the first member of my family to graduate with an associate degree, and now I am receiving a bachelor degree," Mills said. "It's comforting to know that even though my parents cannot make it to my graduation, they can still see it," Mills said.
