Vocal Point, Brigham Young University's nine-man contemporary a cappella group, and Noteworthy, an all-women's group, will perform Jan. 29, at Brigham Young University-Idaho.
After a stunning performance at Lincoln Center in New York City in April 2006, Vocal Point became the champion of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella.
With a varied repertoire and a wide range of vocal possibilities, these crowd-pleasers have it all: rock, pop, country, jazz, and R&B. The show combines harmony, humor and vocal percussion into an exciting and unique musical style called "maximum a cappella." Vocal Point performs for more than 50,000 people each year, regularly selling out shows weeks in advance. In July 2010, Vocal Point performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" for an audience of more than 80,000 at the Boy Scouts of America Centennial Celebration.
Opening the concert will be Noteworthy, an all-women's a cappella group. In the International Championship of Collegiate A cappella, Noteworthy has taken home numerous awards for its unique arrangements, choreography and vocal percussion. In 2007, the group won the entire college competition, earning the coveted title of International Champion.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 29 in the in the Hart Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for BYU-Idaho students and $10 for the general public. A preshow dinner at 6 p.m. in the Manwaring Center Special Events Room is an extra $15. Tickets may be ordered by phone at 496-2230, or online at www.byui.edu/tickets.
