Relief Society general president to speak at
BYU-Idaho summer graduation
Bonnie D. Parkin, general president of the Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will speak at the Brigham Young University-Idaho graduation commencement ceremony on Friday, August 25 at 9:00 a.m. in the Hart Auditorium.
Commencement seating will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the processional will begin at 8:40 a.m. In addition to commencement, separate college convocations will be held in which students' names will be read and they will receive their diploma covers. Convocation times and locations are available online at http://www.byui.edu/graduation/summer.htm. Tickets will not be required for commencement or the convocations.
A total of 705 students will receive diplomas at August graduation. Of those, 492 will be receiving bachelor's degrees and 219 will be presented associate degrees. There will be 433 females graduating, and 272 males. Nearly half of the graduates, 334, are married students, and 19 are international students. The group of graduates also includes 292 returned missionaries.
The youngest graduate is 18 year-old David Grant Wilkinson, while the oldest graduate is 72 year-old David Walz. Both will receive associate degrees in General Studies.
Sister Parkin's previous Church service includes callings as second counselor in the Young Women general presidency, member of the Relief Society general board, ward Relief Society president, ward missionary, stake Young Women president, Young Women adviser and ward Primary president. She served with her husband during his assignment as president of the England London South Mission, and they are the parents of four sons. Sister Parkin earned a bachelor's degree from Utah State University.
