BYU law professor, former Idaho Attorney General to speak at BYU-Idaho forum
Larry EchoHawk, a professor of law at Brigham Young University, will speak at a Brigham Young University-Idaho forum on Thursday, November 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Taylor Chapel with a question-and-answer session to follow at 3:00 p.m.
EchoHawk's forum is titled, "Preserving the Promise of America for Future Generations." He will explore the shared responsibility to help ensure all people experience the American dream of a happy and prosperous life. Specifically, EchoHawk will address what Americans should be doing to combat the vexing problems facing families, youth and children.
EchoHawk began his legal career as an attorney for impoverished Native Americans in California and then opened a private law office in Salt Lake City. He was the tribal attorney for the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes at the Fort Hall Indian Reservation in Idaho for more than eight years.
Prior to joining the BYU law school faculty, EchoHawk served as the Attorney General for the State of Idaho. EchoHawk has served in many public capacities including as a member of the Idaho House of Representatives, Bannock County Prosecutor, chairman of Idaho's delegation to the Democratic National Convention, and as a member of the Federal Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. In 1994, he was the Democratic nominee for Governor of the State of Idaho.
He earned a bachelor's degree while on a football scholarship at Brigham Young University and a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Utah. EchoHawk has served in the Church twice as a bishop and currently serves as the President of the BYU 7th Stake.
