"We are not bound by tradition, nor are we limited to our own understanding or to the wisdom of men. In short, this is a very unusual university."

Organizational structure of BYU-Idaho to be revised
Brigham Young University-Idaho announces a revision of the institution's organizational structure. The change streamlines all university operations and groups campus departments with similar functions and purposes together.
Effective October 1, all university operations will be reorganized into three areas of focus: Academics, overseen by vice president Max Checketts; Student Services and Activities, overseen by vice president Garth Hall; and University Resources, overseen by vice president James Smyth. Jim Gee, who has served the university as vice president of Student Life since January 2004, will retire on September 30, 2006.
Academics remains essentially unchanged, consisting of the university's academic colleges and departments and other academic administration. One change of note in Academics is the creation of a new area called Outreach and Online Education.
Student Services and Activities encompasses areas of student support, student well-being, and student activities. The management of the John W. Hart Building will remain with the Activities Program.
University Resources is comprised of the Budget Office, Financial Services, Internal Auditing, Personnel Services, and Philanthropies. In addition, a new University Operations area is being created, and University Relations, formerly Public Relations, will also be part of University Resources.
The governing councils of the university are also being restructured. President's Council is being expanded to include a broader representation of campus. President Clark will be joined by the vice presidents and key leaders from each of the three new areas of focus. The President's Council provides oversight of university management. A subset of President's Council, President's Executive Group, is being created to oversee strategic planning of the university. This council consists of President Clark and the vice presidents.
A University Council is being created to oversee campus coordination and consists of President Clark, the vice presidents, and an expanded group of leaders from the three new areas of focus. This council replaces the Expanded President's Council and Strategic Planning Council.
The Campus Leadership Forum will continue to meet each semester as a means of gathering general counsel and input from a broad range of campus leaders.
