Rockapella to bring a cappella sound to BYU-Idaho

Rockapella will open the fall Center Stage concert season at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium.

Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for BYU-Idaho students and can be purchased at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office by calling 496-2230 or online at www.byui.edu/tickets.

The contemporary a cappella group presents a blend of soul, rock, R&B and jazz. The group may be best known for the sound behind the theme song for the former TV show "Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?"

The New York Daily News has written: "Rockapella is unquestionably providing a big boost to the a cappella scene. Innovative, well-produced, the band brilliantly incorporates different styles and ideas. Hooray for Rockapella."

Rockapella has toured across the United States and Japan with a sound formed purely from their own voices and high-intensity mouth drums. Those hearing for the first time often gasp and say, "Where are the instruments?"

Rockapella has released 20 albums over the last 18 years, with their most recent titled, "Live in Japan."

Other Center Stage shows during the fall will include "Friends and Brothers" featuring Billy Dean, Marvin Goldstein, Thurl Bailey and Kirby Heyborne Sept. 22; classical guitarist Paul Galbraith Oct. 5 and 6; operatic tenor Stanford Olsen Oct. 10; the Spirit Week Spectacular Oct. 14; the oldies group Herman's Hermits Oct. 21; British pianist Paul Roberts Nov. 1; "Drum!" Nov. 3; Shanghai String Quartet Nov. 16 and 17; Bar J Wranglers Christmas Nov. 29; and Christmas in the Snow Dec. 1 and 2.

A free brochure listing all performing arts events at BYU-Idaho is available at the Manwaring Center Ticket Office, the Alumni Center on Main Street and the Rexburg Chamber of Commerce. Season tickets may also be ordered over the Internet at www.byui.edu/tickets.
