"We are not bound by tradition, nor are we limited to our own understanding or to the wisdom of men. In short, this is a very unusual university."

"The Pirates of Penzance" to be performed
at BYU-Idaho
Singing and dancing will fill Brigham Young University-Idaho's McKay Library Quad next week when the university's Department of Music performs the classic Gilbert and Sullivan opera "The Pirates of Penzance." Performances will be held from Tuesday, August 8 through Thursday, August 10 at 7:00 p.m. each night.
"The Pirates of Penzance" tells the story of a young pirate apprentice named Frederic. Having come to the end of his indentured period, Frederic has decided to leave the pirate life forever and devote his life to their extermination.
Once free, Frederic stumbles upon a group of beautiful maidens. He immediately falls in love with the most beautiful, Mabel, who graciously offers to reclaim him. But Frederic has forgotten there are still pirates about and suddenly his old comrades are upon them.
The lonely pirates are smitten by their captives and recognize the situation as a "first rate opportunity of getting married with impunity." The situation is soon complicated when the girls' father, General Stanley, arrives. From there, the fun begins.
Admission to "The Pirates of Penzance" performances is free.
