Students, employees, alumni, and the community are invited to participate in this summer's Spirit Week at Brigham Young University-Idaho.  A variety of events is scheduled from Wednesday, July 12 to Saturday, July 16.

"Spirit Week at BYU-Idaho is a chance for students and alumni to specifically celebrate the ‘Spirit of Ricks,'" said Greg Marsden, Student Alumni Events Coordinator. "It has the ability to bring students and the community of Rexburg together."  Marsden also said Spirit Week is a time when alumni of Ricks College can enhance the experiences of students currently attending BYU-Idaho.

Spirit Week officially kicks off Wednesday, July 12 with the Spirit Rally at 8 p.m. In past semesters, the Spirit Rally has been held at Viking Stadium at BYU-Idaho, but due to construction it will take place this summer at the Madison High School stadium.

As a university-wide event, Spirit Week is a time to connect with academics, activities, and traditions that tie the past, present and future together.  The goal is to have participants experience BYU-Idaho to the fullest extent by celebrating and enjoying its unique atmosphere.

Some of the fitness-oriented activities on Thursday, July 13 include the Bench Press Marathon in the Hart Building Fitness Center, the Alumni vs. Student Softball Game and Midnight Madness in the Hart Main Gym.  The softball game is a regular Spirit Week event enjoyed by students and alumni alike, Marsden said.

Entertainment will include student-produced events such as Nashville Nights and a film festival.  The week will conclude with a concert by Grammy-nominated pianist Jim Brickman in the Hart Auditorium Saturday night at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $20 for the general public and $10 for BYU-Idaho students.
