"We are not bound by tradition, nor are we limited to our own understanding or to the wisdom of men. In short, this is a very unusual university."

Spirit Week at BYU-Idaho to kick off with Spirit Rally
Spirit Week at Brigham Young University-Idaho will officially kick off with a Spirit Rally at the Madison High School track on Wednesday, July 12 at 8 p.m. Students, employees, alumni, and the community are invited to participate. The rally will include a torch lighting ceremony, fireworks show, and the annual 30-Lap Relay.
In past semesters, the Spirit Rally has taken place at the BYU-Idaho Stadium, but due to construction work, this summer's Spirit Rally will occur at the Madison High School stadium.
"The BYU-Idaho Spirit Week 30-Lap Relay has become a recurring highlight for the students throughout the semesters here in Rexburg," said Greg Marsden, Student Alumni Events Coordinator. "Not only is it an exciting event for the students, but it displays healthy competition and unity among the wards."
Women will run the even-numbered legs of the relay, while men will run the odd-numbered ones. Each leg of the relay is 400 meters long, or one lap around the track. The distances of the first and 30th legs vary, depending on which exchange zone, or spot on the track, the team is assigned.
Marsden also said the student ward with the most members present for the relay will receive the Outstanding Participation Award, which includes a complimentary pizza party for the entire ward. The winners of the Outstanding Participation Award will have their picture taken at the event, which is displayed in a plaque in the John W. Hart Physical Education Building.
To register for the relay and learn more about the rules, a representative from each BYU-Idaho student ward must send an e-mail to relay@byui.edu indicating their ward's intent to participate in the relay and the name, e-mail address, and phone number of the team captain. All teams are encouraged to register early before the 5 p.m. deadline on Monday, July 10.
