"We are not bound by tradition, nor are we limited to our own understanding or to the wisdom of men. In short, this is a very unusual university."

‘Star Search' winner to perform
with Jim Brickman
"Star Search" winner Jake Simpson will perform with pianist Jim Brickman at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg Saturday, July 15.
The young high tenor with a three-octave range won the ultimate winner's prize on CBS-TV's popular "Star Search" (adult singer category) in 2004. Simpson also won the Search Search competition in 2003.
The glamour and bright lights of Hollywood are a world away from Simpson's hometown of Crocker, Missouri. This young man remembers growing up in a town without a traffic light or a Wal-Mart.
Jake's grandmother performed in a trio in her local church. She invited her adorable five-year-old grandson to sing before the parishioners and his first professional gig was "Away in the Manager" during the annual Christmas program. Simpson continued to sing in church throughout his freshman year in college in Springfield, Missouri.
Simpson currently resides in Los Angeles and has released his first album, "Star Search Winner: Jake Simpson" for Sony Records.
Brickman and Simpson will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium as part of the Center Stage Performing Arts Series and Spirit Week.
Tickets are $20 for the general public and $10 for BYU-Idaho students. They can be purchased at the Manwaring Center Ticket Office, by calling 496-2230 or online at www.byui.edu/tickets.
