Latter-day Saint music showcase at BYU-Idaho to feature three popular artists

A Latter-day Saint music showcase will be presented by three popular Deseret Book artists, Julie de Azevedo, Kenneth Cope and Cherie Call, as part of Education Week at Brigham Young University-Idaho.

The Center Stage Performing Arts Series presentation will be Friday, June 30, at both 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkham Auditorium.

Tickets are $8 for the general public and $4 for BYU-Idaho students. Tickets are available at the Manwaring Center Ticket Office, by calling 496-2230 or online at www.byui.edu/tickets.

de Azevedo began her solo career in 1988 and has become an icon in the world of faith-centered music. Her lyrical finesse has placed her among the upper echelon of inspirational singers, evident in the number of Pearl Awards she has received from the Faith Centered Music Association.

Her projects have been featured in film, television and radio, and her much loved song, "Mercy's Arms," was recorded by Grammy-award winning Gladys Knight.

Cope began his singing and songwriting career by recording the 1986 Especially For Youth theme song and went on to compose numerous songs for seven albums produced for the EFY program.

Recognizing his achievements, the Faith Centered Music Association has awarded Cope numerous Pearl Awards over the years, including Male Vocalist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Album of the Year. "Stories from Eden's Garden" earned him an Indie nomination for Contemporary Christian Album of the Year from the Association for Independent Music and in 2003 he received the Best of State Award for Male Vocalist of the Year.

Graduating from BYU in music in 1997, Call recorded and released three independent albums and was later added to the Deseret Book artist line-up. Her folk music has garnered several Pearl Awards from the Faith Centered Music Association including Contemporary Album of the Year, Inspirational Song of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.

All three artists will be signing CDs at the BYU-Idaho Bookstore located in the Manwaring Center on Saturday, July 1, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
