Kendell Nielsen joined the faculty of Ricks College/BYU-Idaho in 1986. He has served as conductor of Symphony Band, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Brass, University Choir, Priesthood Choir, and Men’s Choir. He currently coordinates the music theory program and teaches applied horn. He is twice a recipient of Honorary Faculty of the Year, and once recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Award. Prior to Ricks College, he taught in the Utah public schools and freelanced as a symphony performer and director. In 1984, Nielsen was recognized as “Best Junior High School Music Educator” by the Utah Holiday Magazine. He is presently finishing a music literacy manual entitled The Apolleric Approach to Teaching Music Literacy.
