In April of 2012, Sound Alliance enjoyed a successful tour of the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico with Vocal Union where they were heard by over 300,000 people via three television broadcast, radio, and nine highly attended concerts. This was their seventh tour together including Canada, Chile, and the U.S. regions of San Diego, Las Angeles, Kansas City, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, and Minneapolis; in 2014 they will hit the Southwest.
Sound Alliance has performed with Eric Marienthal, Conrad Herwig, Ed Calle, Ingrid Jensen, and Delfaeyo Marsalis. We have a strong program of bringing in renowned guests for master classes and performances, often with students. Students have the opportunity to "jam" with the jazz faculty every Wednesday night at Sammy's, a local club two blocks from the music building with a cozy environment, great acoustics, and the best burgers and shakes around. The Department of Music offers a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies with full and adjunct faculty for every jazz instrument, a Jazz Society, and opportunity to get off campus; we're going to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival again in February. Scholarships are available through the instruments areas (saxophone, trumpet, and trombone) and jazz specific awards for rhythm instrument players.
We audition every semester for our ensembles and encourage you to join us!
