Josh Skinner is a bassist that maintains an active career as a performer and educator. Fluent in both jazz and classical idioms, Skinner can be seen frequently performing with the Kate Skinner Trio, Greeley Philharmonic, Fort Collins Symphony and many other regional jazz and classical ensembles. Josh has performed with numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, and Colorado, including the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Company. He has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe and currently co-leads a funk-pop fusion group "Promotional Code".
Previously, Skinner worked as an educator in the public schools in a variety of settings including band, orchestra, choir, mariachi, world music, and general music. He has traveled throughout the United States as a clinician and adjudicator working with both classical and jazz soloists and ensembles.
Skinner received his bachelor degree from Utah State University in Music Education. He holds graduate degrees in both Music Performance and Music Education from the Lionel Hampton School of Music at the University of Idaho. Currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Northern Colorado, he has held the position of graduate teaching assistant for the double bass studio, teaching individual instruction and bass studio classes. He is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, The International Society of Bassists, Jazz Education Network and ASTA.
