Darrell Brown holds degrees in Music Education (BM) and Instrumental Conducting (MM) from Brigham Young University, as well as an AA in Music from Ricks College. Additional studies are in music composition under Murray Boren, David Sargent, Mike Hicks, and Christian Asplund. Prior to his appointment at BYU-Idaho, he taught at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas where he taught everything from concert band and mariachi to music theory and methods courses and was a co-founder/organizer of the annual Composition Symposium, which included commissioning and premiering 18 new band compositions. Darrell is an active clinician of all types of ensembles and has taught in the public schools at Provo High School in Provo Utah and at Camelot Schools in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe. He was previously the stage manager at the Texas Music Educators Association annual convention as well as the Music Organizer for the Texas Community College Band Directors Association's All State Band in conjunction with TMEA, as well as a former associate conductor of the Utah Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra. At BYUI he teaches the University Band, the Jazz Lab Band, and various other courses throughout the department.
