Stephen Allen, a native of Ogden, Utah, received degrees in piano performance from the Eastman School of Music and San Jose State University. He earned his doctoral degree in piano pedagogy and literature from Indiana University, where he minored in both music education and musicology.
His solo performances include appearances throughout North America, including tours of Yokosuka and Yokohama, Japan, where he presented master classes for Music International-Japan (associated with the National Federation of Music Clubs) as guest performer and adjudicator. As an active chamber musician he has performed frequently, including invitations to perform at the International Double Reed Society.
In 2004 he was recognized for teaching excellence with the University Faculty Association Faculty Award and in 2009 he was awarded the BYU-Idaho Distinguished Faculty Award. Dr. Allen, NCTM, is the recipient of the Idaho Music Teachers Association Teacher of the Year Award.
A frequent adjudicator and avid educator, Dr. Allen, has presented in numerous state and regional workshops and conferences. He is currently at Brigham Young University-Idaho, where he has taught since 1986.
