String Ensemble Audition Information
Symphony Orchestra/Sinfonietta , and University Orchestra
Auditions for Winter Semester 2009 will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2008. Sign-up sheets for
specific audition times will be available in the Snow Building Lobby or
Music Office. If you have been a member of Symphony
Orchestra/Sinfonietta in a previous semester, no audition is required.

Symphony Orchestra (max. = 36 violins/16 violas/16 cellos/8 basses/1 harp)
Sinfonietta (max. = 16 violins/8violas/8cellos/4 basses)
University Orchestra (unlimited)
One audition serves for all three orchestras.
Be prepared to play the following at the audition:
- two major and two minor three-octave scales both slow and fast;
- from your own repertoire, a 90-second excerpt from a fast, technical piece that best demonstrates the extent of your facility and technique;
- from your own repertoire, a 90-second excerpt from a slow piece that demonstrates well your tone production, vibrato, and phrasing;
- sight reading as provided at the audition.
Come to the audition warmed-up and with your instrument out of the case
and tuned. Bring with you the completed Audition Form available in the
Snow Lobby when you sign up for an audition time.
Baroque Ensemble
Auditions for Baroque Ensemble are held during the first class meeting every semester. Be prepared with an excerpt from a baroque or classical sonata, suite, or concerto. Sight reading will also be required.
