BYU-Idaho Music Scholarship Information
The BYU-Idaho Department of Music offers Talent Awards to all qualified students regardless of major (exception: Piano scholarships are limited to piano majors only).
BYU-Idaho Freshman/Transfer Music Scholarships
BYU-Idaho considers for admission both new and transfer students at two different times each year. Consequently there are two different sets of deadlines for all Music Scholarship Application materials. In order to be considered for a scholarship, all materials must be received in the Department of Music office by the following deadlines:
- If your Admissions Application deadline is FEBRUARY 1, your Music Scholarship Application deadlines are:
- Priority Deadline - February 1
- Final Deadline - April 1
- If your Admissions Application deadline is OCTOBER 1, your Music Scholarship Application deadlines are:
- Priority Deadline - October 1
- Final Deadline - November 1
Scholarships are awarded first to qualified applicants who meet the Priority Deadlines. If additional scholarship funds are available, applications received after the Priority Deadlines and before the Final Deadlines will be considered as they are received.
To be considered for a talent-based music scholarship, complete the following:
- Apply for Admission to BYU-Idaho
- Submit the Music Scholarship Application (Online or by Mail)
- Submit two letters of recommendation:
- Private Instructor
- Ensemble Director
- Perform a live audition OR submit a recorded audition.
- Instrumental applicants are encouraged to perform a live audition if at all possible. Live auditions can be scheduled by contacting the department of music and should be completed by the scholarship deadline. View Scholarship Audition Requirements
- Vocal applicants must submit a VIDEO recording by the posted deadlines. You are encouraged to submit this by posting an unlisted video to YouTube and sending the link with your completed application. (As an alternative, DVDs may be sent but are unreliable.) Applicants selected in this preliminary audition will be invited to campus for a live audition. (Phone or internet audition may be substituted if distance does not permit a live audition.)
