Ted Ashton, Violin

Ted Ashton

 

Ted Ashton is a Professor of Music at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg where he serves as director of the Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Music, Coordinator of Music Education, is a member of the faculty string ensemble quartet, Serenata, and teaches
applied violin. Prior to coming to Ricks College in 1998, he taught orchestra in the public schools in Logan and Provo, Utah. Mr. Ashton received his Bachelor of Music degree from
Brigham Young University studying violin with Henr Temianka and Percy Kalt, as well as viola with David Dalton. He also received a Master of Education Degree from Utah State
University. In 1992 he was the recipient of the “National Schoo Educator Award” from the American String Teachers Association and a “Special Recognition for Excellence in Teaching” citation from the Utah Music Educators Association. He has served in state and local positions of ASTA, Music Educators National Conference, and the Utah Music Educators Association.

 

Kevin Call, Viola

Dr. Kevin Call is a member of the music faculty and currently serves as Associate Dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts at BYU-Idaho. Prior to joining the faculty in 1984, he completed a doctorate in viola performance at the University of Michigan where he studied with Donald McInnes. He completed his master’s and bachelor’s degrees at BYU-Provo while studying with William Primrose and David Dalton. He has performed with orchestras throughout the Intermountain area including the Utah Symphony, Boise Philharmonic, and Sun Valley Summer Music Festival Symphony. He is the conductor of the BYU-Idaho Symphony Orchestra. He taught for four years in the public school system at Provo High School from 1978-82 and is a regular guest clinician and conductor for several youth and community orchestras.

 

Dallin Hansen, Violin

Dallin Hansen

 

Dallin Hansen attended Ricks College and Brigham Young University, earning degrees in Music Education and Orchestral Conducting. He has studied violin with Kevin Call, Lamar Barrus, Donna Fairbanks, and most recently Gerald Elias. As a student, he was winner of the Ricks College concerto competition. He performed with the Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras at BYU, including tours to Russia and central Europe, and participated in the Penderecki String Quartet Intensive Chamber Music Workshop (Waterloo, Ontario). In conjunction with his graduate studies at BYU, he directed the University Strings, University Orchestra, and was assistant conductor of the BYU Chamber Orchestra. Upon graduation he taught in the Davis School District, has conducted ensembles for the Utah Valley Youth Symphony, and for two years served as the music director of the Lincoln Youth Symphony (Brigham City, Utah). Mr. Hansen currently teaches violin, directs the University Orchestra, and performs with the Faculty Serenata Strings Quartet at Brigham Young University-Idaho.

 

Aaron Miller, Double Bassist

Joining the BYU-Idaho faculty in 2007 Aaron Miller teaches the Double Bass studio and assists in the Jazz Studies program.  Aaron Miller received his baccalaureate degree from Boise State University and his master’s degree in jazz performance and pedagogy from University of Colorado at Boulder.  He has studied double bass with Jack Koncel, Mark Simon, Paul Erhard, and Susan Cahill; jazz with Keith Waters, John Davis, Brad Goode, Brent Jensen, Art Lande, and John Gunther.  Aaron has also been a bass instructor at the College of Southern Idaho, Northwest Nazarene University and the Boulder Arts Academy.

Aaron has served as the principal bassist for the Magic Valley and Idaho Falls Symphonies.  He has also played section bass with the McCall Chamber Orchestra, the Sun Valley Caritas Chorale, and the Niwot Timberline Symphony.  Aaron has performed in many musical productions including: Into the Woods; The King and I; West Side Story; A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum; Forever Plaid and the second national tour of The Producers. Most recently Miller performed with the Colorado Light Opera in both of their latest productions – South Pacific and Man of La Mancha.  Miller has played with many jazz greats as well as nationally known artists including: Brent Jensen; John Stowell; Mark Levine; Art Lande; Charles Mcphearson; and Marvin Stamm.  During the summer of 2004 Miller toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra under the direction of Larry O’Brien.
 

Robert Tueller, Cello

Dr. Robert Tueller joined the music faculty of BYU-Idaho in 2001. He previously served on the faculties of the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, the University of Montana - Missoula, and Modesto Junior College in central California. He received his D.M.A. (Doctor of Musical Arts) degree in early music performance, and his M.M. degree in instrumental conducting from the University of Southern California. He holds a B.M. degree in violoncello performance from Utah State University and studied for two summers at the Aspen Music School. Active as a professional conductor and cellist in southern California, Dr. Tueller served as assistant conductor of the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra and played principal cello with the Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra. Other affiliations included the Eroica String Quartet, the Long Beach Opera, the Bakersfield Symphony, and the Modesto Symphony. His baroque cello and viola da gamba playing have been recorded on RCM Records.
