Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is a nationally recognized competency exam administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). The FE exam is a computer-based exam that is administered year-round in testing windows at NCEES-approved Pearson VUE test centers. All engineering students are encouraged to take the FE exam during their last or next-to-last semester before graduating.
More information regarding the FE exam, including a link to their YouTube channel describing the test, as well as a link to download the reference handbook provided during the exam, can be found on the NCEES website:
More details about registering for the exam in the state of Idaho, as well as a link to finding testing locations can be found using the following link. Note that the FE exam can be taken at the Testing Center on BYU-Idaho campus.
Students wishing to take the FE exam must submit their application to the state licensing board a couple months in advance of reserving a seat in order to take the test sometime during the next two testing windows. The application can be found on the following website, on the right-hand side, titled "Engineering or Land Surveying Intern Application." Note that this application will need to be signed by the department chair.
