Grant Application Process

Guidelines

The Thomas E. Ricks Endowment supports the BYU-Idaho faculty in their enrichment, retraining and teaching efforts. Grants cannot be used to purchase equipment or supplies. Faculty are eligible to apply for research, travel, seminar and other grants that will directly benefit students. Students are not eligible to apply for these funds. (For student research funds, see Mentored Student Funds.) Requests for funding can be made up to 18 months in advance of your project start date.

Funding Guidelines

For your information and reference the following criteria were used when granting requests:

  • Thomas E. Ricks funds are designated specifically for faculty development. They are not granted to help fund a faculty member's pursuit of advanced degrees nor do they cover supplies, books, subscriptions, professional association fees, or funding for students.
  • To assist the largest number of faculty, funding decisions will be based on available funds and prioritized for individuals who have not received funding in recent years.
  • The combined financial support from the Department and College will be considered when reviewing the applications. Thomas E. Ricks grants are intended to be supplemental funding and should not be the primary source of funds.
  • Funding will not be granted for projects that are completed before the application is reviewed.

Additional Guidelines:

  • Funding is awarded upon completion of the project.
  • Adjunct are funded at a reduced percentage.
  • Administrators are funded as adjunct.
  • Temporary/One-year hires are not funded.

Award Disbursement
Upon approval of the award, you will be notified of the amount of the grant. The funds will be disbursed to your department on a reimbursement basis. Within 1 week of the completion of your project, please:

  1. Prepare a short (one paragraph) description of your experience;
  2. Add up to 4 pictures - jpeg high resolution (if applicable);
  3. Include the account number to which the funds should be transferred.

Completed information should be sent to Maria Nate at the above address. Once all the information has been received, the funds will be transferred to your department's account. If for some reason you are unable to complete your project, please let Maria know so that funds can be made available for other proposals. Should you have any questions about this process, please call Maria Nate at 496-1157.
