Departmental Outcomes Website
with Steve Hunsaker
Writer: Hayden Coombs
To help faculty members focus their work on the learning that matters most, Steve Hunsaker has built an Outcomes and Assessments website. With the site being open to the public, it allows faculty from all departments and programs to see and review their own outcomes and to get ideas from the work of other departments and programs.
"This site is a major step toward transparency," Brother Hunsaker said, "and I hope that it will inspire conversations of real consequence."
Brother Hunsaker also stressed that the site is a continual work in progress. The next element to be added is the assessment plans for the outcomes. Brother Hunsaker asks that department chairs work with their faculty to design assessment plans for every bachelor's degree program. There are resources on designing assessments here. Those assessment plans need to be sent to Steve Hunsaker by November 16th.
A committee consisting of Steve Hunsaker, Lynne Anderson, Sidney Palmer, Jayson Kunzler, Randy Hayes, and Ben Woodruff is completing reviews of the outcomes that have already been posted. Brother Hunsaker will then consult with department chairs regarding their program outcomes. Any suggestions for improvement will be just that - suggestions.
"We hope that our feedback will improve the clarity and quality of the outcomes," added Brother Hunsaker, "but the professionals in the departments and programs are the content experts and they are the ones who have to make final decisions about what their students need to know."
The review and consultation process will begin again once the assessment plans are complete.
