Computer Lab Software Imaging Policy

PURPOSE:

This policy guides the installation of software on computer labs at BYU-Idaho.  It is a guideline to prevent unnecessary burdens or work load and difficulty in maintaining reliable images on a regular basis for all labs on campus.

AUTHORITY:

It is the responsibility of the Department heads to be the designated point of contact and responsible for determining the list of software for all labs in their respective areas.  All teachers must communicate their software needs to their department head.

PROCESS:

  1. The Fall software list is the main build and designed for major version changes.  It is intended to last for one year.
  2. No new software will be added during semester.  Requests will be added to next semester’s list.
  3. Software changes for Winter and Summer semesters should be minor – such as upgrades or a few added programs.  Minor problems will be fixed in the labs as discovered; however, this is not intended as a time to add new software.  Lists received past the due date will be completed last.
  4. An electronic form listing computer labs and installed software will be available with place for proposed changes.
  5. A prearranged date for a department to test and approve the new image before the semester begins will be provided.  Demonstration of new features can be arranged by request.
