Reporting requirements for students on OPT
Students on OPT are required to report to immigration certain information within 10 days of the event. You do this by reporting that information to International Services through Sunapsis using the OPT Employment Update e-form. These requirements also pertain to those on an OPT STEM extension. The most common OPT reporting requirements are shown below.
|Event||What to Report|
|Change of Address||
|6 and 12 month reporting||
|Ending OPT early||
Please note that you are allowed to be unemployed for up to 90 days on OPT or if approved for a STEM extension of your OPT, a combined total of up to 120 days. Immigration can terminate your status if it appears you have been unemployed longer than allowed. You should keep records of your employment and or volunteer hours in case there is a question. Update information through Sunapsis OPT Employment Update eForm.
