To back up your Axim X5 using ActiveSync:
Restoring Your Data1. In the main ActiveSync window, click Backup/Restore on the Tools menu. 2. In the Backup/Restore screen, click the Restore tab and click Restore Now. 3. If a screen appears requesting you to select the partnership file that contains your backup file, click the appropriate file and click OK. 4. In the Proceed with Restore screen, click Restore. The Restore In Progress window appears. Do not use your device until the process is complete. 5. When the Restore Complete: Restart device screen appears, click OK. 6. Disconnect the Axim X5 from the sync cable or cradle. 7. Perform a soft reset of the Axim X5 by quickly pressing and releasing the reset button on the side of the device. If a message appears asking you if you want to combine or replace the data on the Axim X5 with information currently stored in Outlook, select the option you want and click OK.
Download emails onto your Pocket PC1. Open Microsoft Active Sync on your computer and click Options.
2. Click on Inbox and then click Settings. On the next screen, select mail folders contents that will be put on your Pocket PC. In the example below, the Alan Young, CNN, and IT updates folders will be synchronized with the Pocket PC once the Pocket PC is in the cradle. The Inbox is automatically synchronized. Click OK.
3. If instead you wish to change how many appointments are downloaded onto your Pocket PC, click on Calendar and then click Settings. Choose the range of appointments to download and click OK.
How to move files from your desktop computer to your Pocket PC1. Insert your Pocket PC into the Dell cradle.
2. Click and drag the desired file onto your My Documents folder (you may have named yours something like Bob My Documents or Pocket_PC My Documents) You may also save your files directly to your My Documents folder just as you normally would for any other folder. Whatever files are in the My Documents folder on your desktop computer will automatically be copied to your My Documents folder on your Pocket PC.
Note: Be sure you are using the My Documents folder with the two blue arrows.
How to switch between programs and exit programs1. Go to Start and click on Settings. Click on the System tab
2. Click on Switcher bar. The Switcher bar now appears at the top of your screen
3.Clicking on the two arrows brings up the Switch bar menu shown in the following screen. You can switch to any opened program by clicking on it, or you can save memory resources by exiting programs you aren’t using.
4. Clicking on the light bulb icon will display the following screen which allows you to adjust the brightness and your power usage.
5. Clicking on the battery icon will display the following screen which indicates how much power is left on the batteries.
How to beam files between two Pocket PCs
1. Find a file to be beamed. In the example below, a note will be beamed. Tap and hold on the file until a menu appears. Click on Beam File. (This technique works with beaming all types of files.) This menu will also appear if you are inside a file. Click on Tools, then Beam Note.
2. The Pocket PCs must be aligned so they can recognize their signals. When they are aligned correctly, the file transfer will begin. Aim the top left corners of the Pockets PCs at each other. The Pending message indicates beaming is successfully taking place. A Done message indicates a successful transmission.
If your Axim begins behaving funny or freezes up, simply press the soft reset button on the left hand side of your Axim (it’s located just below the recording button). This clears the memory and re-boots the Axim. Nine times out of ten, this will solve the problem
