Laptop Requirement

BYU-Idaho asks that all students have a laptop computer to assist in homework, research, writing and other steps of the learning process. Some courses will require the use of a laptop in class as well - However, since the BYU-Idaho Learning Model encourages active involvement in classroom discussions, laptops are not generally used for taking notes in class.

The following were the specific department hardware and software requirements:

(The colleges will be updating these soon)

College of Agriculture & Life Science

College of Business & Communication

College of Education & Human Development

College of Language & Letters

College of Performing & Visual Arts

College of Physical Science & Engineering

A Windows laptop will normally meet the needs of the vast majority of students, particularly for those majors where another brand requirement has not  been specified.  Where there is no specification students may pick the platform they prefer (Windows or Apple).
