Texting From Email @ BYUI

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM Call us: (208) 496-9000

Did you know that you can generate text messages (txt or SMS) from your email?  Here's how:

  1. Enter the recipient's cell phone number in the "To:" field as their 10-digit cell phone number, followed by the "@" sign.
  2. After the "@" symbol, add their carrier, such as "vtext.com." For example, if the recipient was on the Verizon network and his number was "1-234-567-8901," the "To:" field would read "12345678901@vtext.com."
    • Sprint: number@messaging.sprintpcs.com or number@pm.sprint.com
    • AT&T: number@txt.att.net
    • Qwest: number@qwestmp.com
    • T-Mobile: number@tmomail.net
    • Verizon: number@vtext.com
    • Virgin Mobile: number@vmobl.com
    • Nextel: number@messaging.nextel.com
    • Alltel: number@message.alltel.com
    • Metro PCS: number@mymetropcs.com
    • Powertel: number@ptel.com
    • Boost Mobile: number@myboostmobile.com
    • Suncom: number@tms.suncom.com
    • Tracfone: number@mmst5.tracfone.com
    • U.S. Cellular: number@email.uscc.net
  3. Type your message in the body of the email.
Keep your message short, as most cell phones can only accommodate 140 characters per text message.
  4. Click "Send." Your email will show up as a text on the recipient's cell phone.
