Fax: How BYUI Employees can send a fax with Outlook

How do I send a fax in Outlook?

Note: Anyone can send a fax.  In order to receive a fax in Outlook, you must first have a Personal Fax Number. To request a number click here to fill out the Personal Fax Number Request form (BYU-Idaho Employees Only).

  1. Open a new e-mail message in Outlook and address it.
    1. The fax is addressed using the To...line of the email message.
      1. Simply type the 10-digit fax number followed by @fax.byui.edu
      2. If you are using a calling card append that to the end of the number.
        1. Examples:
          • Campus: 2084961234@fax.byui.edu
          • Off Campus (Local):  83561234@fax.byui.edu
          • Off Campus (Toll-Free): 818005281234@fax.byui.edu
          • Off Campus (Calling Card): 81801123456712345678@fax.byui.edu
          • Off Campus (Calling Card - International): 801122334455667712345678@fax.byui.edu
        2. The To, From, Subject, and message body of the email message appear on the cover page of the fax. Fill in this information if you desire it to appear on the cover letter.
  2. Attach the document you would like to fax by clicking on the Insert menu and choosing File... or clicking the paper clip icon.
    • Note: Attachments appear as subsequent pages behind the cover letter. 
  3. Click Send.
  4. You will receive a notification by e-mail whether the fax is delivered successfully or not.
