How big is my bed and what size sheets should I bring?

Virginia H. Perkins Hall, Annie S. Kerr Hal, Sarah Ann Barnes Hall and Edna Ricks Hall require standard twin size sheets.

Helen Lamprecht Hall and Verla J. Chapman Hall require extra-long twin size sheets (80 inches).

The men's dorms require extra-long twin size sheets (80 inches).

What do I need to bring?

What is provided?

What things should I not bring?

Pets, fireworks or other explosive/flammable materials, hot plates, space heaters, incense, candles, weapons (including firearms, BB guns, paint/pellet guns, wrist rockets, large knives, ammunition) should not be brought.  Some musical instruments and loud amplification devices should not be brought. Safety and peaceful enjoyment of living areas for all residents should always be considered.

Will I have a telephone?

One wall-mounted telephone is provided in each room or apartment. This phone allows call to be made in the local calling area. A calling card can be used to call long-distance. You can obtain a calling card from the Accounting Office.

Can I decorate my room?

Of course! Each dorm/apartment has bulletin boards you can use to hang up posters, pictures, etc.  You can use white UHU-tac (which is provided by your head resident) for putting things on the walls. Please do not use nails, tape, or other types of adhesives, and make sure your decorations can be easily removed (no paint, wallpaper, contact paper, or decals). Please do not hang items on ceilings either. Due to potential fire hazards, residents may not use light bulbs of more than 60 watts.

What about computers?

Click here for information on computers and internet access.

Will I need renter's insurance?

If your parents have homeowner's insurance, chances are you are covered under it. If not, you should purchase renter's insurance. University insurance only covers university property, not your personal property.

Is there a place for my bike?

There are bike racks located outside each residence hall.  There is no indoor storage for bikes.  Bikes typically can't be used in the winter months, so in cases where outside storage is objectionable, residents should take their bikes home. Residents should register their bikes at check-in time to have their identification numbers included in the University Police file.
