Three things to check if the wired/wireless BYUI network is not working:

 

  1. Network (ethernet) cable is firmly connected to both computer and wall port or the Wireless card is turned on.
  2. To verify that the connection will be obtained automatically. (Instructions below)

Windows XP:

  • Go to Control Panel
  • Double click Internet Options
  • Right click (Local Area Connection) and select Properties
  • Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
  • Click Obtain IP address automatically and click Obtain DNS server address automatically

Windows Vista:

  • Go to Control Panel
  • Double click Network and Sharing Center
  • In the left sidebar click Manage network connections
  • Right click (Local Area Connection) and select Properties
  • Double click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
  • Click Obtain IP address automatically and click Obtain DNS server address automatically

 

   3.   To verify that any previous dial-up accounts are disabled (Instructions below)

Windows XP/Vista:

  • Go to Control Panel
  • Double click Internet Options
  • Click Connections tab
  • Single click any dial-up account in the "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings" box and click "Never dial a connection".
